What is Tanking?

What is a wetrook tanking kit?
What is tanking and why do I need to do this to make a wet room or shower room?
Tanking is the term used for the waterproofing procedure carried out in wetrooms. The same or similar tanking process can also be used in bathrooms, wet rooms, shower rooms and sauna/steam rooms which protects the building against moisture migration and leaks (steam, shower spray, etc).
Contrary to popular belief, tiles, adhesives and grouts are permeable and can allow moisture to migrate into the structure over time causing mould growth, rot, and in some cases resulting in structural damage.
The tanking process for a wetroom in essence provides a waterproof layer between the walls and floors and the tiles. As the tanking is applied using a liquid chemical agent its dries to form one solid waterproof barrier to keep any water that way escape through tiles within the wet room and not all to ingress into other rooms and cause damage to your building.
We provide a range of Tanking solutions for wetroom. Please see our wetroom tanking products page
Also see our HOW TO video that shows you one solutions for tanking a wetroom.
